For 31 of the 32 years that Summerland has selected an annual heritage home, Ken Ballantyne has produced a pen and ink drawing.

Ballantyne began his artwork, in the 1970s, as a way of relaxation. In the 1980s he began to draw Summerland heritage buildings for the museum as well as accepting private commissions.

In 1996, he began studying watercolour with Bruce Crawford and since then, taught himself to use acrylic paint. Sales of his watercolour and acrylic works began in 1999 and now they can be found in collections both nationally and internationally.

Since 1999, Ballantyne has been teaching art to disabled artists. He continues to accept acrylic, pen and ink or watercolour commissions.
