B.C. Wildfire Service responding to Cawston area fire

A Thursday afternoon thunderstorm is suspected to be the cause of a wildfire near Cawston

Update 5:30 p.m.

A plane dropping retardant was used on a small fire estimated 0.5 hectares near Cawston Thursday afternoon. A helicopter was also seen.

The fire is still listed as active on the B.C. Wildfire website.

A small wildfire is burning in the hills above Cawston.

A notification from the Village of Keremeos states the small fire in the Barcelo Canyon area is suspected to have been caused by Thursday afternoons thunderstorm.

The Keremeos Volunteer Fire Department attended the scene and B.C. Wildfire currently has water bombers mobilizing.

The B.C. Wildfire interactive map notes the fire is new and less than a hectare in size.
