Montreal's Patrick Cote calls it a career after UFC 210 loss to Thiago Alves

Canada's Cote calls it a career at UFC 210

BUFFALO, N.Y. — Canada's Patrick (The Predator) Cote is calling it a career.

The 37-year-old mixed martial artist from Montreal dropped a unanimous decision to American-based Brazilian Thiago (Pitbull) Alves in a welterweight bout on Saturday's main card of UFC 210.

Moments after the match, Cote dropped his gloves in the octagon and told the crowd that he was finished.

"Win or lose, it would be my last fight," said Cote.

Cote (24-11-0) returned to action Saturday night after a 10-month absence. It was his first fight since being dominated by Donald (Cowboy) Cerrone last June in Ottawa.

Prior to Saturday, Cote said that he had four fights remaining on what would be his last UFC contract.

Cote, who made his UFC debut in 2004, is an athlete who has long planned his exit strategy from his gruelling sport. When not fighting, he does French-language commentary for UFC events and serves as an MMA analyst on Quebec TV and radio.

A Canadian army veteran, Cote also works with the military on close-combat instruction. In addition, he is an athletes' mentor for the Canadian Olympic Committee and has a real estate company.
