Summerland voters have elected a new municipal council.

The results were released on Saturday evening roughly an hour after the polls closed.

Toni Boot was elected as mayor, defeating Janet Peake.

Both had served as councillors on the previous term of Summerland’s municipal council.

The councillors are Doug Holmes, Erin Trainer, Erin Carlson, Doug Patan, Richard Barkwill and Martin Van Alphen. Holmes, Trainer, Carlson and Barkwill all served on the past term of council. Van Alphen served as a councillor from 2011 to 2014.

Other candidates in the municipal election were Ron Kubek, Mark Smed and Claude Gautron.

The trustees elected were Dave Stathers and Linda Van Alphen. Other candidates for school trustee were Peter Waterman and Julie Planiden.
