It was a solemn time for remembrance as hundreds of Summerlanders gathered in Memorial Park on Nov. 11 for the community’s annual Remembrance Day ceremony.
The event included two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. as well as laying of wreaths on behalf of governments, community organizations, businesses and individuals.
Dick Norris, D-Day veteran and one of the last Summerland veterans of the Second World War, lowered the flag.
Names of fallen soldiers from Summerland were read out during the ceremony. This year, more than 30 additional names, many from the First World War, were included in the ceremony.
The list was expanded to include some from Summerland who had served but were not included on the cenotaph. In 2025, when the cenotaph is relocated, these names will be added.
