The municipality of Summerland will hold the first phase of community engagement for its Official Community Plan update.

The community plan is a long-term planning document used by the municipality in land use decisions.

“The Official Community Plan is Summerland’s roadmap to the future,” said Mayor Doug Holmes. “I encourage all residents to get involved and share their voices — it’s your input that will make this plan truly representative of our community’s values and vision.”

Holmes added that the plan reflects the Summerland’s collective vision for the community.

Summerland’s last Official Community Plan was last updated in 2015 and since that time, the community has undergone growth and changes.

The plan will address emerging trends, reflect the voices of residents, align with the municipality’s current policies and initiatives and meet provincial legislative requirements.

The first phase of the engagement, Community Visioning, will have several pub lic events.

On Feb. 18, the municipality will hold an open house at the George Ryga Arts and Cultural Centre, 9525 Wharton St. Those interested are invited to drop in between noon and 8 p.m. Presentations will be held at 1 and 5 p.m.

A Community Visioning Survey will be available until Feb. 28. The form will be available online and paper copies are available at the development services counter at municipal hall, 13211 Henry Ave.

Additional phases of the community plan update process will be held through the year. A review of the urban growth boundary will be held in April, a review of the draft document will take place in October and the finalizing and adopting of the plan is expected to take place in December.
