A Penticton couple who have generously contributed to the Penticton Regional Hospital are furthering their support of the community with a fund focused on attracting medical professionals to the region.
Over the last 14 years they've lived in Penticton, Jim and Marcia Cavin have used the services of the local hospital and come to appreciate the importance of quality healthcare.
Jim's passion led him to volunteer as a member of the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation's board of directors from 2014-2019.
The couple's support for the hospital has extended beyond volunteering, with two sizable donations.
The most recent donation of $235,000 is split between $50,000 towards the new oncology department, with $185,000 going to establish the fund.
The Cavin Recruitment Endowment Fund is intended to generate income to both attract and retain medical professions for the Penticton area.
The SOS Medicial Foundation says they are planning to reach a million dollars in the fund over the next several years, and are looking for the support of the community to reach that goal.
The Cavin's have already contributed $134,000 to equipment for the hospital before this most recent donation.
“Jim and Marcia’s thoughtfulness and generosity will indeed be a lasting gift for the health of the South Okanagan Similkameen community," said Ian Lindsay, the foundation's CEO.
