Summerland’s Canada 150 Mosaic piece, now on display at the staircase in Summerland’s Municipal Hall, will be moved to the wall of the museum.

On Monday, council approved a resolution to place the mosaic on the wall of the museum, facing Wharton Street.

The location was one of seven considered for the mosaic.

Others included walls at the Aquatic Centre, Municipal Hall, the public library, the Arts and Cultural Centre, the entrance of Centre Stage Theatre and Summerland Secondary School.

The wall of the museum was the Cultural Development Committee’s first choice.

The second choice was the western wall of the library building. The committee determined the size and location were good, but the mosaic would fade quickly at that location.

Angelique Wood, community development coordinator for the municipality, said the museum location will bring plenty of attention to the mosaic.

“It’s got good public visibility and good lighting,” she said.

She added that there are tourists who are stopping at Canada 150 mosaics and having their pictures taken in front of the artwork.

A total of 150 mosaics were created last year for Canada’s 150th anniversary.

Summerland’s mosaic features the Kettle Valley Steam Railway’s steam train, Giant’s Head Mountain and local fruit.

Wood does not believe vandalism will be a problem when the mosaic is on display outside.

She said Penticton has its mosaic displayed on an outside wall and has not had any problems with vandalism there.
