Two fundraising breakfasts on the morning of Saturday, Nov. 30 collected donations to help the community of Summerland.
At Giant’s Head Brewing, a pancake breakfast provided diners with pancakes by donation. The money raised was for the Summerland Food Bank and Resource Centre.
This breakfast served around 50 people and raised $1,024. Organizers said there were a lot of generous people who attended and contributed.
The food bank has been in place since 1984 and the need continues to grow each year. While the need is present throughout the year, it is noticeable during the festive season. During December, the food bank prepares holiday hampers for those in need within the community.
At Second Home Cafe, a breakfast raised money and collected donations for the Toys and Toonies for Tots and Teens drive, organized by the Summerland Fire Department. This is the 37th year for the breakfast.
The breakfast served 245 people and raised $4,300, as well as toy donations. In addition, firefighters at the Festival of Lights on Nov. 29 collected another $1,800 for the gift drive.
