A Shakespeare comedy will be staged outdoors this summer as the St. Andrew’s Players perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream in August.
The play features intertwined love stories, a love potion and a group of labourers preparing a play for the Duke’s wedding.
Director Colin Cross said the play will be performed in the theatre style of when it was written.
“We’re going to make it as Elizabethan as possible,” he said.
The play will feature period costumes and settings, and has been minimally abridged.
Cross has staged other Shakespeare plays in past years, including Twelfth Night a couple of years ago.
He said A Midsummer Night’s Dream appealed to him as a summertime performance.
“It’s the only comedy of his group of comedies that I haven’t done yet,” he added.
The play will be staged at Saxon Estate Winery, 9819 Lumsden Ave. on Aug. 5 and 6, at Tinhorn Creek Winery in Oliver on Aug. 9 and 10, and at Township 7 Winery in Penticton Aug. 11 to 13. The play begins at 7 p.m. each evening, except on Aug. 12, when it will begin at 2:30 p.m.
Tickets for the Summerland performance are available at the winery, at Dragon’s Den in Penticton and at the door.
