Street festival coordinated

Summerland’s downtown will take on a medieval flavour later this month when participants at the Good Will Shakespeare Festival take to the streets.

On Saturday, May 14 from 2 to 5:30 p.m., Henry Street between Main Street and Jubilee Road will be closed for special events.

Sheila Jones, co-chair of the Summerland Merchants’ Association, said the afternoon will have a market atmosphere with vendors set up to sell their wares.

From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., students participating at the festival will perform for the public.

“It’s going to be quite an impressive event,” Jones said.

She added she would like to see more street festivals downtown in the future.

The business group was formed in fall. It is made up of various downtown merchants.

In April, the merchants organized their first street festival for the Earth Day celebrations.
