Multimedia works shown at gallery

Drop by the Summerland Art Gallery to see C’est la vie, a multimedia show featuring works by Summerland artists. Winter hours: Tuesday to Friday 1 to 4 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Movie night

GenNext will be showing two movies, both starting at 5 p.m. on Jan. 28 at the PenMar Theater in Penticton.

One film will be a popular indie movie, Nowhere Boy (the story of John Lennon’s early years; check YouTube for the trailer) and the other, a classic family show, The Neverending Story.

Come out to enjoy a great film and you will also be entered automatically into a draw for some great door prizes, donated by local businesses.

 GenNext is for young professional’s in their 20s and 30s who are interested in being involved in their community and networking with other young professionals.

GenNext is also committed to raising awareness and supporting the work of United Way.

On stage

Neil Simon’s Brighton Beach Memoirs opens Thursday, Feb. 3.   Get your tickets at  www.KelownaActorsStudio.com.

On film

On Monday, Feb. 7 at 7 p.m. at the Summerland Yacht Club enjoy one of the funniest full-length features in a long time, La Grande Seduction, or Seducing Dr. Lewis, as it is called in English. 

The film is produced and located in Quebec, with English subtitles.

Knitters’ night

The Summerland Stitchers present: A night to knit and socialize.

This is a knitters’ night for those who want to learn to knit or for those who want to improve their knitting skills.

Organized by Margie Sylvester and Gail Hunt, the knitting starts Feb. 1 at the Sweet Tooth from 7 to 9 p.m. and will be held every second Tuesday.

Art exhibit

Good Omens coffee house, across from the Summerland Middle School, has a display of paintings by Leanne Spanza.

Novelist speaks 

UBCO presents an evening with novelist Emma Donoghue on Thursday, Feb. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Kelowna library on Ellis Street.

Donoghue’s 2010 novel, The Room was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

The Room can be found on the Quickread shelf at the Summerland library.

Ballet

Ballet lovers mark your calendars.  Ballet Kelowna will be at Centre Stage on Saturday, March 19 with their spring tour, Actions Consequences.
