A fundraising event at Zias Stonehouse Restaurant has raised more than $12,500 for Summerland youth.

The fundraiser, held on March 8, drew more than 120 people in support of the Summerland Asset Development Initiative.

The banquet was held after funding for the youth organization had been cut for the second consecutive year.

"This has been a challenging year for SADI due to cuts in funding, but the community has come together to support the youth and ensure that existing programming will continue," said Scott Boswell, chair of the organization.

The evening featured a three course dinner and live music from Johanna and Rebecca McNeil and Corwin Shanner.

Servers included youths from SADI and leadership students from Summerland Secondary School.

The event was organized by SADI directors Donna Graham and Anke Smit who worked to bring live and silent auction items from more than 40 businesses.

The auctions raised more than $3,700.The money raised will go to support operations at the Unit Youth Club. There are more than 650 drop-in visits a month at the youth club as well as many structured activities.

"Due to the generosity of our community, all the money raised during this event will go directly to provide critical support and opportunities for youth," Smit said. "Thank you to everyone who supported this event and donated so generously."
