The fifth annual Earth Day celebration on Sunday saw 110 people at the Dale Meadows Sports Complex to improve the area around the creek.

Lisa Scott, organizer of the event, said participants planted and mulched 165 plants. They also painted yellow fish around 15 storm drains in the downtown area. The fish were painted to remind people the water in the storm drains eventually affects fish habitats.

This year, Earth Week celebrations in Summerland have included numerous events ranging from a street festival to a Green Business Expo and more.

Earth Day is normally celebrated on the Sunday following April 22. This week, because Easter falls on that Sunday, Earth Week was moved back a week.
