Book examines area geology

The long-awaited book on the geology of the South Okanagan is now available. Okanagan Geology South, edited by Murray and Robert Fulton, covers a wide range of topics.

There is a special section, Summerland’s Geologic Wonderland, which describes Giant’s Head and Crater Mountains, two extinct volcanoes.

Also mentioned are Summerland’s “cannonballs,” the potential for geothermal heat, Summerland’s glacial history and the silt bluffs.

A separate section written by water specialist Don Dobson describes Surface Water Resources in the South Okanagan. There is a chapter which describes for the first time, groundwater resources in the South Okanagan.

One chapter describes Okanagan soil and its influence on wine production.

There are more than 150 coloured illustrations is this easy to read text.

Profits from the sale of the book go to the Okanagan College Foundation and the University of British Columbia Okanagan.

It can be purchased at the Visitor Information Centre on Highway 97 and will be available during next week’s Meadowlark Festival.
