It was a weekend of energy and emotion as eight contestants vied for the opportunity to represent the community at the Summerland Blossom Pageant on Friday and Saturday.

The two-day pageant featured talent and speech competitions on Friday evening with the impromptu questions and the final judging on Saturday evening.

Jacqueline Belanger, Miss Kiwanis, was selected as Blossom Queen.

“I’m shocked,” she said following the coronation. She added she had wanted to be part of the Summerland royalty for many years.

During her year-long term, Belanger and the two Summerland princesses will attend special events in the community and out of town.

“I’m looking forward to travelling and meeting new people,” she said.

Haley Kachkowski, Miss Penny Lane, was one of the two princesses.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” she said. “It feels unbelievable but this is actually happening.”

Jenna Woldenga, Miss Rotary, was also named a princess. In addition, she received the Miss Congeniality title.

“It’s really surprising,” she said. “I had absolutely no idea this was going to happen.”

She is looking forward to deepening friendships with the other members of the royalty.

“I’m excited to be with my best friend Jacqueline and my close friend Haley,” she said.

The other candidates in the pageant were Brittney Niemi, Miss Home Hardware; Madison Johnson, Miss Zias Stonehouse; Jessica Knutson, Miss Nesters Market; Danielle Lucier, Miss Alder Street Auto Body and Kylie Huva, Miss Action Festival.
