Arts award nominations sought

Arts and cultural news and events from Summerland.

Nominations for the fifth annual Okanagan Arts Awards are now being accepted.

The awards will acknowledge artists or supporting groups or individuals in the categories of Central Okanagan Foundation Community Arts Association Award, Arts Educator, Music, Dance, Supporter of the Arts, Design, Theatre, Literary Arts, Visual Arts and Media Arts.

Victorian Christmas

Victorian Christmas featuring scenes from Little Women and A Christmas Carol, readings by CBC Alumnus Carol Munro and a chamber choir directed by Tom Klassen will be at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 157 Martin St., Penticton this Friday at 7:30 p.m., Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Tickets at Dragon’s Den and at the door.

Band concert

The Penticton Concert Band will be sharing the sounds of Christmas Music on Tuesday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m. at Summerland Seniors’ Village and on Dec. 20 at Cherry Lane Shopping Centre Penticton at 7 p.m.

Ballet show

The Nutcracker presented by the Canadian School of Ballet with guests Ballet Kelowna and Alexandra Babbel’s Vocal Academy will be at the Kelowna Community Theatre this Friday and Saturday. Visit www.selectyourtickets.com or call 250-762-5050.

Choral music

Kelowna Community Chorus directed by Leroy Wiens presents Noel, Noel, Noel together with Vocals Unlimited and Duor Trio Saturday, Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at First Lutheran Church, 4091 Lakeshore Rd., Kelowna.   Tickets at the door or call 250-764-8919 or 250-768-7824.

Heritage crafts

The Summerland Museum’s Heritage Crafts for Kids and Christmas Treasures Sale will be at the I.O.O.F. Hall this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At the gallery

Terroir: Charting Boundaries is in the Main Gallery of the Penticton Art Gallery.

This exhibition serves as the first in a series designed to explore the diversity of visual art being practiced in this region.   This first installment includes five regional artists: three painters – Jim Kalnin, Patricia Kushner and James Postill; and two photographers – Carol Hermesh and Allison Howard whose works share a thematic connection.

Art exhibit

George and Friends Art Exhibit, featuring the works of two dozen artists, is at Leir House until Dec. 21. Hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
