Activities for kids expanded

Children and teens attending this year’s Action Festival will have a bit more to do as some new rides and games have been added to the mix.

Pat Bell, president of the Action Festival Society, said Funtastic Inflatables will have a variety of entertainment in the north end of Memorial Park this year. The entertainment company will have a toddlers’ play area, an obstacle course, a bungee run and a 6.7-metre slide as well as circus games.

Traditionally the Action Festival has included rides and entertainment, but for the past four years, the festival has not been able to bring in amusement rides.

“We’re now able to bring a replacement,” Bell said.

Bell said the rest of the festival, which takes place June 3 to 5, features plenty of entertainment and action.

A basketball tournament will be back again on Kelly Avenue adjacent to Memorial Park.

Musical entertainment will be available on stage throughout the weekend with rock bands and singers on Friday evening, local performers through the day on Saturday and the bigger acts on Sunday.

The Sunday entertainment will include blues and jazz, ending with Jerry Doucette. “He was so well received last time he was here,” Bell said.

This year marks the 29th year for the festival.
