Abstract exhibit opens at gallery

Summerland arts and culture events

Hinge, featuring abstract paintings by Katherine Pickering opens tonight Thursday, Sept. 29 at the Summerland Art Gallery.

There will be a reception from 7 to 9 p.m.

Pickering’s current work explores painting as a site-specific practice. Illuminated walks through the landscape at night constitute the research for paintings that explore the connection between darkness and abstraction.

The paintings she creates from these night walks reveal a process that embraces the mystery of place and the role of the imagination in our experience of darkness.

In the adjoining Adams Room there will be a Retrospective Celebration featuring works by various members of the Kelowna Watercolour Guild.
