If you want to race side-by-side with the Snowbirds pilots or show off your sandcastle building skills, next week is the time to do it.

The Snowbirds, 2015 Downtown Penticton Association Peach Bin Race champions, have signed up to run again on Aug. 9 along with teams from Greyback Construction, Hoodoo Adventure, Felt’s Photography and Davie &Associates. Jackey Zellweger, marketing and special events manager for the DPA, said there is still room for more teams to join in on the fun.

“I have peach bins available and teams can decorate them as they see fit. Each team needs one rider inside the bin and maximum three people to push,” she said. “This year we have also trimmed down the course so it starts from basically city hall in the 100 block of Main Street and runs down to the end of the street, towards Lakeshore Drive, and then back. It should be a lot of fun and it is for a great cause.”

The cost to register is $50 and all the proceeds that are generated go towards a local charity chosen by the winning team. The grand prize also includes a free parade entry for the Peach Fest Grand Parade on Aug. 12. Applications to sign up are found online at www.downtownpenticton.org.

The RONA Sandcastle competition takes place on Aug. 10 at Skaha Beach, near the sundial, and is looking for more teams.

There are several different categories including corporate or business (eight adults maximum, unlimited kids under 12), family and friends team (six adults maximum, unlimited kids under 12), youth team (ages 13 to 16) and kids team (ages 12 and under).

Registration starting at 4 p.m. Sculpture time runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and kids sculpture time is 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. For more information or to register online visit www.peachfest.com.
