The 36th season of the Children’s Showcase is once again shaping up as a great event with shows featuring circus tricks, seasonal music, a powerful Indigenous spirit and captivating rhythms from some of Canada’s top family entertainers.
“Well, you know, the committee that puts on the Children’s Festival has been amazingly committed from the get go, there were people that ran with it made it the success it is for many, many years just in the last couple of years there has been new people coming on board,” said committee member Jayme Friedt. “We have an amazing, amazing group of parents with children that are incredibly committed, that want to see live theatre in our community so they’re passionate about it. They’re committed to it they want it to happen, so it’s definitely the volunteers.”

While those attending are of all ages it’s the younger crowd who are the targeted audience.
“It really is geared to the little guys, we definitely get a lot of adults that enjoy the performances as much as their kids but it’s the three four five year olds, they have that freedom to laugh and jump and take part,” said Friedt.
Kicking of the series of four shows, all of which are at the Cleland Theatre starting at 2 p.m., is Indigo Circus from Alberta on Oct. 20.
The dynamic duo offers up an exhilarating array of big top tricks ranging from balancing acts, staff spinning and crystal ball juggling mixed in with a variety of amusing antics.
Next up is the Christmas show Dec. 15, a winter afternoon of musical family fun according to Friedt.

Maiya and Mia of Little Tree Music Together will be joined by Tavis Weir and Stefan Bienz for a joyful and interactive show of both new and familiar seasonal favourites from around the world.
On Feb. 9 is the Axis Theatre’s production of Th’owxiya: The Hungry Feast Dish by Vancouver’s Joseph A. Dandurand.
Indigenous storytellers spin a tale from the Kwantlen First Nations Village of Squa’lets, about Th’owxiya, an old and powerful spirit that inhabits a feast dish.
Kelowna’s Zac Gauthier will be on stage March 8 with his show Bring the Noise! a story about a young boy who discovers a world of music in his own home in what’s described as an; “innovative, inspirational, percussive extravaganza.”
Single tickets are $12 or season tickets are available for $30 for all four shows.
