Rachel and Neil Terry live for Halloween and their haunted display is as spooky and fun as it gets.
“Halloween is the best time of the year,” said Rachel Terry.
The Penticton couple have been turning their front yard into a haunted landscape for more than 10 years, adding to the spookiness as the years go by.
“Our display has become a popular destination on Halloween,” said Neil.
Even with their kids older now, the Terrys continue to enjoy putting together the display for the enjoyment of the hundreds of kids who come by each Halloween.
“It’s neat to see generations of families coming to visit each Halloween,” said Rachel. “When the display is lit up at night, it looks really spooky. The kids get a kick out of coming here.”
The Terrys live in the “K” streets neighbourhood at 920 Kilwinning.
The “K” streets are Kilwinning, Killarney and King as the area is a popular spot for trick -or-treaters. A lot of houses are all decked out for Halloween.
“Most years we get up to 300 trick-or-treaters,” said Rachel. “Last year, we saw a bit of a dip but we still had 150 to 200 kids.”
There’s graveyards, a spooky “Skelettery” entrance, spiderwebs, crows, bones, a grim reaper and of course, plenty of skeletons to welcome you in.
Not just any skeletons but “The Skeletterys” whose daily antics and mischief are posted on the Skeleterrys’ Facebook and Instagram accounts to the lead up to Hallow’s Eve.

Last year, Neil built a special tombstone dedicated to the year 2020.
“It was a pretty bad year for everyone so I thought I would make a tombstone for it, to keep it in the past,” said Neil. The tombstone reads: The year of the Curse – 2020.
Rachel and Neil also came up with a creative COVID-friendly way to hand candy out last Halloween.
“We built this fortune teller booth with a glass partition and a chute where the candy came out,” said Rachel.
The fortune teller booth is still there, but Rachel won’t be manning it this time.
With just four more sleeps to the big night, the Terrys are counting on a most spooktacular night and welcome everyone to visit…if you dare!
