Volunteers interested in helping keep Penticton clean will have an opportunity on Oct. 18.
Junior Chamber International Penticton (JCI), Royal LePage Locations West Realty, Coyote Cruises and the K’ul Group have partnered together to organize a community cleanup of the river channel.
The cleanup will run from 1 until 4 p.m. on Oct. 18.
Each year the river channel has thousands of people who spend their summer days floating and swimming from one lake to the other.

“Royal LePage is excited to be part of the Community River Channel Clean Up because we are proud to call Penticton Home and help the community in any way we can,” said Royal LePage realtor Nicole Courtney in a release.
The Community River Channel Clean-Up is an organized effort to remove garbage and unwanted items from along the river channel and channel parkway.
“This year we saw a 50 per cent increase in the number of channel floaters and over 80 per cent of floaters are non-Coyote customers. The sheer amount of garbage left from all floaters is overwhelming during the season,” said Coyote Cruises business partner Diana Stirling.
JCI Penticton is leading the community cleanup, having in the past worked on revitalizing the channel with previous cleanups and work on the installation of the concrete stairs to enable public access to the river channel.
Volunteers are needed for socially distanced shifts to help collect garbage and will be staggered at the following times: 1:00 p.m., 1:45 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.

There will be three check-in stations, hosted by members of JCI Penticton and Royal LePage along the route to help get volunteers set up to work on specific sections of the channel.
Upon completion of a volunteer’s shift, they will head back to their group’s station to return the cleanup kit and wash up.
All volunteers will be entered into a draw for some gift cards from local businesses.
