Swing by the Penticton Art Gallery and tickle some golden ivories.

The colourful public piano has just been installed this weekend and is now on display outside the gallery for anyone to play.

“Huge thank you to Carla and PAG’s Young@Art students for painting this piano all summer long,” said the gallery’s Facebook page on Sunday, Aug. 22.

There is plenty of outdoor art to check out at at the gallery from the yarn bombs at the bridge to the Ha Ha Ha Kidz Fest rainbow tile mural located near the piano.

The gallery’s public piano will likely be the only one in Penticton this summer.

Last year, there was a public piano at Nanaimo Square but after a good run, it was silenced by vandals in September 2020 and had to be dismantled and thrown away.

However, the piano bench was saved. It remains on display at Long Gallery on Main Street as a way of remembering what was a ‘beautiful experience,’ this summer in Penticton, said Long Gallery artist and owner Jenny Long.

The Downtown Penticton Association confirmed they will not be having a public piano this year.
