Summerland’s Blossom Queen crowned

Olivia Corps, Miss Avery Law Office, was chosen as Blossom Queen for the coming year

A new Blossom Queen and two princesses have been selected to represent Summerland for the next year.

At the 48th annual Blossom Pageant on Saturday evening, Olivia Corps, Miss Avery Law Office, was chosen as Blossom Queen for the coming year.

Miss Rotary Jessica O’Gorman and Miss Zias Tiana Ferlizza were named princesses. O’Gorman was also named Miss Congeniality in the pageant.

“We did things we never thought we’d do,” Corps said after receiving the Blossom Queen crown. “It was the best experience of my life and I will remember it for the rest of my life. Thank you.”

The pageant events were held on Friday and Saturday evenings at Centre Stage Theatre.

On Friday, candidates presented their speeches and talent demonstrations. On Saturday, the evening gown competition and impromptu question were the final judged events.

The Saturday evening coronation ceremony also included a group dance number, the Frugal Fashion Show and the presentation of awards to the participants.

This year, eight candidates took part in the pageant program.

“These kids put their heart and soul into representing our community,” MLA Dan Ashton said.

Mayor Peter Waterman said the pageant involves months of training and preparation.

“They put these girls through a very intense program through the year,” he said.

“I would like to congratulate all the contestants in the Summerland Blossom Pageant. They have worked very hard preparing and training to become ambassadors for Summerland.”

The People’s Choice Award went to Miss Fire Department Chelsea Robinson. She also received the Committee Award and the Top Fundraiser Award.

Ferlizza received the Talent Award, the Volunteer Award and the Local Knowledge Award.

Corps received the Public Speaking Award.

For the next year, Corps, Ferlizza and O’Gorman will attend numerous events in Summerland and around the province as representatives of the community.
