Grade 8 students from Summerland Middle School are participating in Real Acts of Caring week this week.
The week began Feb. 10 and continues until Saturday.
On Tuesday, students were in Summerland and Penticton to perform acts of kindness in both communities. These include paying for people’s coffee, leaving notes around town for others to find, visiting seniors, giving flowers to workers at a soup kitchen and reading to young children at elementary schools.
Lily Keys, one of the Grade 8 students participating, said the students have raised more than $400 for the initiative.
Some middle school students will also go to the B.C. Legislature in Victoria to watch a proclamation announcement for Real Acts of Caring week in B.C. by the provincial government.
“My class is very passionate about this day and week,” Keys said.
“We want others to be inspired by our message and do kind things throughout the week and continue this outside the week.”
On Monday, students were at the municipal council meeting in Summerland to present information about the week.
“Thank you for doing this,” Mayor Toni Boot said. “It’s really important to the whole community.”
