Penticton will be home to “street-style” entertainment at five different city locations all summer long.

The re-launch of the Penticton Buskers Program was made official last week but on Wednesday, April 13, the city confirmed the locations in which local artists will be able to set up and perform for the public.

Starting on May 15, the buskers’ program can be seen at five spots in Penticton’s downtown core:

• Lakeshore Drive at Power Street

• Lakeshore Drive at Winnipeg Street

• Main Street at Lakeshore Drive

• Main Street at Nanaimo Avenue

• 300 Block of Main Street

A busker — considered to be either a single or group of musicians or performers that provide entertainment in a public space — will be featured on the city’s streets until Oct. 15 between the hours of 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The program has been executed in the past in Penticton but not since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Councillors praised the plan during a meeting on April 5 after the city’s manager of recreation, culture and arts Kelsey Johnson announced the re-launch of the program.

“Implementing this initiative is just another means for us to add to the vibrancy of the downtown while giving an opportunity for performers to showcase their talents in front of a live audience,” Johnson said.

Busking areas may be expanded to other locations later in the summer, the city added.

Those interested in participating as a performer can learn more here.
