A local brewery is going the extra mile to root on the Penticton Vees as they start their playoff run Thursday (tonight).

In tribute to the hometown team and its 60th-anniversary season, Cannery Brewing has released a special edition Penticton Vees Lakeboat Lager to honour the Vees just in time for game night.

In what’s being dubbed ‘The Official Beer of the Penticton Vees,’ the special beverage will be available for purchase at the South Okanagan Events Centre during the team’s playoff home games.

As well as being available at the arena’s concessions stands and suites, 473-milliliter cans of the drink can be picked up at local liquor stores and at Cannery Brewing’s taproom.

“It’s the perfect choice to cheer on our Penticton Vees to victory!” the brewery said in its latest announcement.

The special packaging of the Vees’ brew is only available for a limited time, according to Cannery.

The Vees will host the Trail Smoke Eaters for Game No. 1 of the Interior Conference’s quarterfinals on Thursday, March 31.

Fans are encouraged to arrive early and join in on the pre-game party outside of the arena starting at 5 p.m.. This will be an all-ages ages event free to the public with interactive games and activities.

The first two games of the series — as well as games five and seven, if necessary — will be played at the SOEC.

Tickets can be purchased at valleyfirsttix.com or in person at the arena’s box office.

Puck drop for the Vees’ anticipated start to this year’s postseason is at 7 p.m.
