It’s almost time to celebrate seniors’ week in Penticton.

Annual B.C. Seniors’ Week celebrations kick off Sunday afternoon, June 4.

The City of Penticton, joined by a number of local organizations, is celebrating the occasion by hosting several activities until June 10.

“The City of Penticton is pleased to proclaim this Seniors’ Week in our community as a way to recognize the impact they have had in shaping our town and just as importantly the many ways they continue to influence,” said Sarah Desrosiers, the city’s social development coordinator. “The breadth of activities really does show age is just a number and that the passion for giving doesn’t fade.”

Free transit will be made available for adults 55 years old and older, with the following gathering taking centre stage all week long.

• Intergenerational art activity taking place at the Boys and Girls Club

• Free fitness activities with the City of Penticton’s Recreation Departments at the Community Centre

Seniors’ Week in Penticton starts with a discussion with keynote speaker Dr. Heather Cooke on the topic of ageism at Okanagan College, Pattison Centre of Excellence building. Event starts at 1 p.m.

Maps of all five bus routes outlining heritage sites throughout the city will be available at the Seniors Centre, Penticton Public Library or Museum, and on the buses.

A full seniors’ week schedule can be found here.

The occasion will be celebrated by municipalities across the province.
