The annual Salvation Army Christmas Kettle campaign has finished another successful year of fundraising in Penticton.

Despite COVID-19 challenges and fewer volunteers ringing the bells at eight fewer locations in Penticton and Keremeos than the previous year, event organizers still said the fundraiser was a “huge success.”

By the end of the fundraiser, the Salvation Army raised $136,651 in 38 days. The money raised helped provide over 600 Christmas hampers to over 900 people in Penticton and Cawston, it will also support the Family Services Food Bank throughout the year.

“Due to the generosity of our community and consistent donors the Food Bank is filled in abundance with food. Because of COVID-19 we want to make sure that we have enough food to reach everyone,” said Salvation Army volunteer and Christmas Kettle coordinator Rosemarie Cargill.

“We would like to thank all the volunteers, the media, and also the people of the South Okanagan for making this campaign a huge success. We would also like to thank Cherry Lane Mall, Walmart, and BC Liquor Stores in Penticton and Keremeos for your generosity in allowing the kettles at your location.”
