Penticton’s Golden Dragons seniors Dragon Boat team is looking for new members to join the team.

The Gold Dragons will be holding a pre-season meeting at the Skaha Lake Park gazebo on April 20 at 2 p.m. and anyone 55 years and older is welcome to come down.

People interested can drop in, meet the team and find out all about dragon boating. The team is looking for anyone interested in signing up as paddlers or as a steersperson.

The Golden Dragons are active from May to early September with practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Dragon boating is a way to get fit and enjoy being out on the water with a group of fellow paddlers. Men and women interested in trying out the sport are welcome to attend practices for the first two weeks at no charge before paying the $150 annual fee.

Life jackets and paddles are provided and safety is a key concern along with fitness and fun. Team members and new recruits are required to be fully vaccinated.

The team’s coach Don Mulhall has been part of dragon boat training and racing in Penticton since 2000 and is race manager of the Penticton Dragon Boat Festival in September.

2022 marks the return of the full festival to the waters of Skaha Lake after a two-year hiatus.
