In past years, Summerland’s Remembrance Day ceremonies were held in Memorial Park. In 2020, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, a closed ceremony will be held at the Summerland Legion. A video will be available later in the day. (Summerland Review file photo)

Because of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Summerland Legion has cancelled its planned Remembrance Day luncheon for veterans.

The Royal Canadian Legion B.C./Yukon Command instructed its branches to cancel events following the Remembrance Day ceremonies.

A ceremony in Summerland is scheduled for Nov. 11 at 11 a.m., outside the Summerland Legion. It will be recorded and posted online at summerlandlegion.com.

This ceremony will be restricted to invited Legion members and local dignitaries.

While the Summerland Legion will not have the luncheon, the branch will pay tribute to deceased veterans by placing a candle on the graves of veterans at local cemeteries.

In addition, the public is invited to place a poppy at the cenotaph on Remembrance Day.
