A nine-day celebration of arts and culture begins tonight, March 25, in Penticton.
The inaugural edition of the highly-anticipated Ignite the Arts Festival will commence at Cannery Brewing on Friday and wrap up on April 3, after more than 1000 people — from artists to volunteers and community members —help make the celebration come alive.
A mini-mural unveiling event will headline the festival’s opening night, with 10 artists expected to display their works to those in attendance.
The murals will later be auctioned off at the end of the summer.
A total of 70 performances across six Penticton venues will make up the Ignite the Arts Festival, with the mural unveiling set to be the first. The opening event will run free to the public from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the brewery.
From theatrical and musical performances to sculpture contests and mural unveilings, the festival will have little of everything for someone in the community, according to Penticton Art Gallery curator Paul Crawford.
“I believe we have this incredible window of opportunity right now to rebuild community and use art as the tool to bring people together,” he told the Western News on March 11.
Tickets for the festival’s musical acts will be available for purchase until April 1.
The Cleland Theatre and Dream Cafe are among the venues that will host music nights.
