The 2017 heritage trees are the two horse chestnut trees at 12412 Shaughnessy Ave.
The original homeowner was John Tait.
Tait was Summerland’s first horticulturalist, from 1916 until his retirement in 1946.
His home on Shaughnessy Avenue was built in approximately 1910 and most likely the chestnut trees were planted at that time.
Tait was active in the community. His activities included, the Board of Trade, Farmers Institute, B.C. Fruit Growers’ Association, curling, lawn bowling and Boy Scouts.
