Since moving to the Okanagan from Vancouver, the multi-award winning chef has opened two “pop-up” restaurants in Naramata, the most recent one last May called Bongo Bistro at Serendipity Winery.

Bongo, who is also a cookbook author, has also long been involved with programs which provide assistance to people in developing countries around the world during his career.

From working at fast food outlets as a teenager in Maple Ridge, he graduated to five-star hotels, worked in the cruise line industry and went on to win four consecutive Chef of the Year in the Yukon Territory awards.

“We look forward to working with Chef Bongo very much,” said Greg Litwin, public relations director for the Soupateria Society in a news release.

The Soupateria is open 365 days a week to provide meals for the less fortunate, that includes on the Christmas and Thanksgiving holidays when the volunteers dish up a hot, sit-down dinner for those who stop in. It has been in operation for over three decades.
