In 1916, ice on Okanagan Lake caused problems for boats

It has been cold outside this year, but not as cold as in some previous years.

This 1916 photo shows the Naramata breaking a trail through the the ice for the York tug with a barge. In the distance is the S.S. Sicamous.

On New Year’s Day, brave swimmers will face the chilly water of Okanagan Lake in the annual Polar Bear Dip. But they will not need an icebreaker to clear a path to the water.
