The Summerland Ornamental Gardens will hold its annual Spring Plant Sale in early May.

The sale will be held at the gardens May 4 and 5 from 8 a.. to 4 p.m.

It features a variety of annuals, perennials, vegetables, tomatoes and drought tolerant plants.

The sale is an annual major fundraiser for the Friends of the Gardens Society, a non-profit community volunteer group formed in 1991 to preserve and maintain the gardens.

The society runs only on memberships, donations and fundraisers to stay alive and through this funding hires two seasonal gardeners and depends on a host of dedicated volunteers to achieve its mandate.

Under the Society’s stewardship the gardens now showcase a xeriscape garden and butterfly/pollinator garden along with maintenance and the water wise conversion of the expansive Heritage Garden featuring roses, unique trees, flowers, wildflower meadows and meandering paths.

Master Gardeners will be at the event to offer advice. A workshop on Okanagan Gardening for Newcomers will be held both days from 1 to 3 p.m. with Kathryn McCourt.

An artisan market, concession and products from local growers and nurseries will also be present.

The gardens are across from Sunoka Provincial Park, at 4200 Hwy. 97 S. in Summerland.
