A Summerland fashion design student had her line of clothing on display at a recent show in Richmond.

Lindsey Jenner, a student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University, designed her Lady Doe clothing line as a collection for older women.

“As my nana began to age, I realized the difficulties that she faced, especially with dressing on a daily basis while in a retirement centre,” she said earlier.

“My goal was to empower her and give her the ability to wear something stylish and functional, yet that was still easy for herself or her caregiver to put on.”

Jenner was one of 32 emerging designers to showcase their collections in the Wilson School of Design’s 2018 show.

“It was a very surreal moment seeing my designs down the runway with so many other incredibly talented people,” Jenner said.

“I got a very positive result from the public. I was surprised and excited about how many people were encouraging me to continue this line.”

The clothing line is a collection of everyday clothing in styles easily worn by those who may have difficulties in dressing.

Jenner said the fabrics and designs are made to be comfortable, with closures that are easier to use than those on some conventional garments.

Five of the garments were displayed on the runway at the show, but the full line of clothing was also on display at a booth.

After the show, Jenner gave the clothing to her grandmother.

Jenner, who graduated from Summerland Secondary School in 2013, has been accepted into the education program at the University of British Columbia and will return to school in the fall.

She is still creating pieces for her grandmother and would like to take the company further in the future.
