MISSING COSTUMES In 2015, volunteers at the Summerland Legion had elf costumes to wear during a seasonal event. This year, the costumes are missing and the elves have nothing to wear. Anyone with information about the costumes is asked to contact Laurinda Dorn at 250-583-9875. (Photo submitted)

The Summerland Legion will hold its annual Christmas children’s party in early December, but the elves who will be helping have nothing to wear for the occasion.

The party will be held Sunday, Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Summerland Legion, 14205 Rosedale Ave. and is open to the community. Between 150 and 200 children are expected to attend this free event.

But Laurinda Dorn, one of the event organizers, said the costumes are missing.

“We’ve searched every box at the Legion twice, maybe three times,” she said.

She believes the costumes were lent out for another community event three or four years ago and were not returned after that time.

The eight costumes were designed and made by Kathy Brazeau, a Legion volunteer, in 2015. The costumes are full-sized and will fit adults. Some have red jackets with white fur trim while others have green jackets with white fur trim. All include peaked hats and red and white striped socks.

High school students will be dressed as elves to assist with the Legion event. If the full costumes cannot be found, the assistants will wear elf hats for the event.

In addition to the elves, the Christmas children’s party will include visits from the Grinch and from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

If the elf costumes cannot be found, Dorn would like to borrow other elf costumes from the community.

Anyone with information about the missing elf costumes or anyone with costumes to donate or lend to the Legion is asked to call Dorn at 250-583-9875.
