The Penticton Art Gallery and Cannery Brewing are partnering on a new public art project highlighting local talent.
Eight local artists have been selected to create “mini murals” that will be on display at Cannery Brewing.
Cannery and the art gallery called for local artists in January who may be interested in participating. Nearly 80 applications were received, and a jury has selected eight.
The artists chosen for the mural series are: Zac Abney, Benjo Andringa, Dianne Bennett-Way, Liz Demer, Jolenne Mackie, Diana Palmer, Stephanie Perry and Gabrielle Strong.
Once the 4’x4’ murals are completed, there will be a series of unveilings held at Cannery Brewing in March.
In the summer, the murals will be moved outside to Cannery Brewing’s Backyard. At the end of the program, the murals will be auctioned off to the public in the fall.

“We are thrilled with the strong and diverse group of artists that have been selected to participate in this project. They all have distinct styles, and we can’t wait to see what they create for display at our brewery,” said Ian Dyck, co-owner of Cannery Brewing.
The project was inspired by a similar mural project in the small B.C. town of Wells that started in 2009 as part of their annual ArtsWells Festival.
Once completed, the murals would be displayed at the Island Mountain Arts Art Gallery and then auctioned off. In the subsequent years, the town has become an outdoor art gallery with dozens of homes and businesses sporting one or more of the paintings for everyone to enjoy.
“We are so excited about this project, and I hope this is something we can continue in years to come,” said Penticton Art Gallery curator Paul Crawford.
