If you’re wondering what to do with your kids this summer, Okanagan College has some suggestions.

Camp OC is back this summer with an even better selection of summer camp fun with new offerings on the menu for students in grades 4 to 9.

Parents and their children can choose from a range of camps including junior passion for fashion, video game workshop, and mad scientist camps, to name a few.

And students entering Grades 4-6 this fall can once again sign up for the ever-popular Jr. Game Programming using Minecraft camp.

“Campers will once again delve into what makes the Minecraft world tick, including modifying many aspects of the game through a series of hands-on Java programming tutorials,” said Tomora Davey, the camp’s instructor. “There is something for everyone, whether you are relatively new to Minecraft or have been playing for a long time.”

Sharon Reems, co-ordinator for the Penticton camps, said that something-for-everyone idea lies at the heart of the camps’ popularity.

“The best part about Camp OC is that camp offerings cover such a wide range of interests and ages,” said Reems. “They also strike just the right balance of fun and education that resonates with kids but also appeals to parents.”

It’s not all about sitting in classrooms. Time is built into the day for fresh air and healthy activity.

“We have small class sizes and each day includes breaks for campers to get outside and enjoy the sunshine or burn off some energy in the gym,” said Reems. “We can’t wait to welcome campers to the beautiful Okanagan College Penticton campus this summer.”

Last year more than 1,500 students took part in more than 100 different camps as part of Camp OC across the college’s campuses in Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Revelstoke. The program has seen incredible growth since it launched in the summer of 2004, when there were just 70 kids enrolled in about 10 camps.
