A newly released children’s book outlines a part of Summerland’s history.
On Nov. 19, author Karen Autio and illustrator Loraine Kemp made a presentation of their children’s book, Growing Up in Wild Horse Canyon, at the Summerland Museum.
The story begins in 1780 with a detailed description of First Nations activities.
Part of the presentation included Summerland’s section of the Brigade Trail and Joel Palmer’s difficulties with his oxen and wagons on the trail in 1858.
The book is written for children between the ages of seven and 10.
At the back of the book there is a detailed section on this history for teachers.
Autio and Kemp have visited schools in the area to present the book.
