Caroline Barclay (nee Cornwall) was the wife of George Barclay.

By the year 1900, the Barclay cattle ranch comprised of most of present day Summerland.

Summerland was founded in 1902 when Sir Thomas Shaughnessy bought the Barclay ranch.

The ranch was for sale was because Caroline wanted to move back home to Ashcroft and to her father’s Ashcroft Manor.
