Swimmers achieve records at Swim-a-Thon

Members of the Summerland Orca Swim Club were in the pool for an afternoon of competition during the Swim-a-Thon on Saturday.

The meet was held at the Summerland Aquatic Centre.

Young swimmers in the I Can Swim levels completed as many lengths as possible within 30 minutes.

The youngest among these five- to 12-year-old swimmers were Arjin Curry and Karis Jantz, both five years old. Each competed 24 laps within the time period.

Seven-year-old Mateo Ducheck completed 50 lengths, while Claire Pleasance, seven, completed 48 lengths.

I Can Swim Stage 4 swimmers worked to achieve 60 lengths or 1.5 kilometres within an hour.

Alexandra Widdis, Andrea Brunner, Kyah Demitri, Isla Kast and Payton Mitchell all completed 60 lengths.

Others in the same category worked to see how many lengths they could complete.

Alistar Martin completed 184 lengths, Max Patenaude and Charles O’Brien each completed 172 lengths. Annalease Martin and Ellie Kidd each completed 144 lengths.

These swimmers are all 10 and under.

All the swimmers who set out to swim for two hours completed 200 lengths.

In the 10 and under boys, the swimmers were Dezi Ducheck, Gordon Widdis, Case McDermid and Peter Kunka.

In the 10 and under girls category, the swimmers were Fiona Girard and Emily Gell.

Girls 11 to 12 were Sydney Wilson, Izzy Porter, Isobel Schneider, Kaila Sands and Emma Scholefield. Boys 11 to 12 were Arlo Kast and Gavin Rogalski.

Girls 13 and older were Nikeisha Greenwood, Ashlin Greenwood, Emma-Jane Demitri. The only boy 13 and older was Logan Cupples.
