Summerland swimmers make waves

The Okanagan squad finished second in recent swimming competition

The Orca Swim Club joined Kelowna and West Kelowna to form an Okanagan squad at the AA provincial championships on the June 16 weekend. The Okanagan squad finished second.

Leading the charge was Holden Berrisford (13) with two gold medals in the 200 and 400 individual medley. Holden dominated the competition winning the 200 I.M. in a time of 2:38.67, four seconds faster than the next competitor. In the 400 I.M., Holden also won with a time of 5:39.09. Holden also collected a bronze medal in the 200 fly. All three times qualified him for the AAA provincials in Kamloops, July 6-10.

Brooklyn Parliament (15) won three gold medals, winning the splash and dash 50m freestyle in a time of 28.35 and contributed to two relay gold medals. Tayla Ingram (13) and Arlo Kast (12) also won medals as the anchor leg in both medley relays. Kast out-touched the second place finisher by .02 seconds to secure gold , and Ingram moved up 3 spots on her leg of the relay to win silver.

The youngest team member, Desmond Ducheck (9), swimming in the 11 and under category, missed out on medals on three events, finishing fourth in all and breaking his club records.
