The Summerland Scorch U12 team played undefeated in a recent ball tournament at Dale Meadows Sports Complex.

The Westide Outlaws, Tricity 2007A, Westside Outlaws 2, Tricity U10 Super Mites and Summerland Scorch played in the U12 category on May 6 and 7.

On May 6, each team played three games.

Summerland was undefeated with pitcher Rylea Taylor, catcher Jayden Doyle, short stop Samantha Robertson and second base Izzy Pastulovic all receiving MVP medals.

On May 7, the Scorch beat the Tricity Super Mites to win a spot in the semi-finals.

The Scorch placed the Kelowna Heat in the Semifinals, winning 13-4 to advance to the finals.

In the finals, Summerland beat Tricity 14-3 to win the gold medal.

Although Summerland had only eight players on the field, they were undefeated in all six games.

Five of the players also played last year, but three are new to the sport this season.

“I have never known a Summerland team to win any of our tournaments in all the years we have hosted,” said Cynthia Cutt, one of the organizers.

“Our girls have really gelled this season,” said Traci Stafford, team manager. “The veteran players have really stepped up as models and the new players have caught on quickly. The girls are really starting to understand the nuances of the game rules and are starting to work cohesively on the field. I am so proud of their sportsmanship and competitiveness this weekend. I think they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.”

In the U16 tournament, also held on the weekend, the final gold medal was won by Kelowna Heat by only two runs over the Ridge Meadow Warriors.
