Students excel in track and field

The meet pitted schools from the region to compete for spots in the Okanagan Valley Championships

SHOT PUT Grade 12 athlete Hunter Dufty, placed first in the senior girls shot put at a recent competition.

The Summerland Secondary School track and field team participated in the South Central Zones meet last Tuesday and had some excellent results.

The meet pitted schools from the South Okanagan and the Kelowna area to compete for spots in the upcoming Okanagan Valley Championships.

Grade 12 athlete Hunter Dufty, placed first in the senior girls shot put, and a strong second in both the senior girls discus and the senior girls hammer throw events. She will be moving on to compete against the Valley’s best next Thursday in Kamloops.

Other Rockets who had outstanding days were Grade 10 student Jason Scherban who placed first in the junior boys 800 metre race, leading from start to finish, and also first in the junior boys 1,500 metre event

Also excelling was Grade 9 student, Keagan Ingram, who won both the junior boys 3,000 metre race as well as the 1,500 metre steeplechase event, where he placed third.
