Thunder player plays in Western Canadian Championship
Mason Sherburne of the South Okanagan Minor Baseball Association got the chance to play in the Western Canadian Baseball Championships in Kamloops, Aug. 17 to 20. Sherburne was picked up by the Kamloops River Dogs 13 and under peewee AA team. Kamloops was competitive and won one of three matches. Their lone win was against Manitoba. Sherburne won most valuable player for pitching almost five shutout innings against Saskatchewan before he was pulled. They lost to B.C. (Campbell River Tyees), who eventually won the tournament against Saskatchewan.
Pub Dart League
Another season of Penticton Monday Night Pub Dart League is set to begin. League play is set for Sept. 11 and is looking for players. Anyone interested in playing is asked to contact Ted Fossen at 250-488-0465, by calling or texting him.
Co-ed fall soccer league
The Penticton Soccer Club is looking to start a Co-ed League starting Oct. 15, with games starting at either 5 or 6 p.m. depending on the number of teams it can attract. Club president Dale Anderson posted on the club’s Facebook page that they are hoping to get at least six teams. Anyone that wishes to manage a team is asked to contact him at acdcanderson@shaw.ca. If anyone wants to help run the league or feel they are up to running the CoEd league, are asked to let him know and he will help with indoor booking or whatever they need to take it on. Anderson said another option is to also start on Oct. 22, but that Adidas Sportsplex needs to be booked quickly.
Mulligan, Pybus sinks victory at Summerland golf
Carol Mulligan scored 87 to win the low gross score, while Helen Pybus had 79 by retrogression in Summerland Golf and Country Ladies Club action Tuesday. Second flight winners were Pat Gartrell with 92 and Barb Oleschuck with 79. Third flight winners are Norma Chambers 103 and Betsy McAndrew, 68.
Dewolf’s team win scramble event
Randy Dewolf’s team with Albert Chenier, Jo-Anne Long, Don Stinson and Norie Stinson won with an eight-under, 62 in the five-person scramble as the senior men hosted the Penticton Golf Club Ladies Wednesday. Finishing second were Paul Heatlie, Frank Gair, Allen Kregosky, Rita Drage and Rick Redwood.
