Skiers earn medals at provincials

Apex Ski Club athletes attend U14 B.C. Alpine Provincials at Big White

Skiers from the Apex Ski Club, including one Summerland athlete, earned medals at the U14 B.C. Alpine Provincials.

The competition was held at Big White on the weekend of March 17 to 19.

More than 160 athletes from around the province competed.

Conditions were challenging and different each day. Athletes had to contend with icy steep runs, rain, fog and hail.

Heming Sola of Summerland was named B.C. Apline U14 male provincial champion.

This is the first time Apex has had a provincial champion at this level.

In the girls provincials, on the first day of GS competition, Noa Rogers placed first, Ana Large placed second and Blanka Gerloczy placed 52nd.

On the second day of girls GS competition, Rogers finished first, Large placed second and Gerloczy finished 37th.

In the boys provincials, on the first day of GS competition, Heming Sola finished second, Jaras Grant placed 32nd and Quinten Pearson placed 36th.

On the second day, in boys slalom competition, Sola finished first, Pearson placed 18th and Grant finished 28th.

On the third day, in boys GS competition, Sola placed first, Pearson finished 27th and Grant finished 28th.
