An Olympic athlete met with swimmers at the Summerland Aquatic Centre as part of the Swim B.C. Prospect Camp.

Brent Hayden, a three-time Olympian and the bronze medal winner in the 100 metre freestyle at the London Olympics in 2012, was the main guest speaker at the prospect camp.

The two-day camp attracted 30 athletes, 12 and 13 years of age, from Kamloops to Penticton, including four Summerland swimmers.

The Summerland participants were Arlo Kast, Isobel Schneider, Isabelle Porter and Sydney Wilson.

They were selected based on their 200 individual medley time and were representatives of the fastest swimmers in the Okanagan Valley.

Delano Ducheck, co-coach of the Orca Swim Club in Summerland, said the camp focussed on a return to basics philosophy. The emphasis during the swim camp was on mental conditioning more than on physical training.

Swimmers were tested on swim components including dive, kick and swim efficiency. They will be tracked and compared to similar aged athletes from across the country.
